How to be a W.I.S.E. Woman
Proverbs 14:1 says: “A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.” (Proverbs 14:1 NLT) The verse doesn’t say an informed woman builds her home, or a woman with much knowledge builds her home, but a wise woman. If you are curious to know what makes a woman that builds up and doesn’t tear down, here are 4 qualities that make a woman W.I.S.E.
W is for Worship
First, a wise woman worships God. Like I said, wisdom comes from God, but if you don’t honor God and revere Him, you won’t have a heart to receive His wisdom. Like many others, you’ll place your confidence in earthly knowledge and make the grave mistake of believing that acquiring information is all you need and that you don’t really need God. But the woman who worships God and recognizes His eternal attributes will open her heart to God and receive His wisdom which is greater than earthly knowledge. The Bible tells us:
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” (1 Corinthians 1:25 ESV)
Oftentimes, we get this mixed up. We believe earthly knowledge makes us smarter than God, and eliminates our need for God, but I challenge this thought. It’s the humility of God who is the source of all truth who holds the greatest wisdom and when we seek Him, we will also find wisdom.
I is for Identity
Second, a wise woman identifies with Christ. Women have been making some very interesting decisions lately. Surgically modifying their bodies, obsessing over the images they post online, accepting treatment less than that of a daughter of the Most High God, and all because there has been a lost sense of identity in our generation. We’ve forgotten where we come from and who we are and once you’ve lost your identity, where you go in life is no longer up to you. Your decisions are held hostage to the opinion of others and your potential is capped at what society thinks of you. A wise woman will fervently battle to maintain her identity in Christ, so she can be free from the constraints of this world and embrace who she is in Christ. It won’t matter what people think or what they say. God’s Word over her trumps all and grants her the freedom to truly be the woman of faith God has called her to be. She lives with an authenticity that is desired, but often ridiculed. Still, the wise woman knows who she is in Christ and therefore can’t be swayed by the fleeting and empty options of this world.
S is for Surrender
Third, a wise woman surrenders to God. The idols of our day may not appear to be as obvious as the handmade images we read about in the Bible, but they are just as real. Many have bowed down to the idol of attention, convenience, money, and fame. We give them our thoughts, money and resources. The thing about idols is that no matter how much you worship them and sacrifice yourself to them, it’s never enough. You keep needing to give and give until you have nothing left. A wise woman, on the other hand, knows that surrendering her life to God is profitable and yields great reward that will not leave her empty, but full of life, joy, and peace.
E is for Empowered by God’s Truth
A wise woman is not looking to the temporary things of this world to empower her to live well. She knows God is her source and seeks Him as such. She does not sacrifice her time with God or attention to Him because God is a priority in her life. Not because it feels like the good or right thing to do, but because she relies on God for all her needs and He has never failed her. While everyone is looking for the next best idea or the latest and greatest philosophy, the truth of God is a sufficient source for the wise woman and is the foundation of her life. Therefore, she is not swayed by the constant changes of “truth” of her day, but relies on the everlasting truth of God to empower her for anything.
